COMMERCE, Texas – St. Edward's women's basketball dropped their first contest of the season Saturday, falling 69-46 to Texas A&M-Commerce in Lone Star Conference action.
SEU started the game well but made just one field goal in the final six and a half minutes of the first quarter. By the midway point of the second quarter the Lions had pushed their lead to 14, 25-11. The Hilltoppers were able to pull within four points, 25-21, on
CHARLI BECKER's three on a fast break, but Commerce closed the quarter on a run of their own to send SEU into the locker room with an 11-point deficit, 32-21.
St. Edward's was only able to pull within eight points in the second half as TAMUC pulled away at the end to secure the victory.
SEU was held to 32% from the floor and 25% from three-point range and was led by
DEIJAH BLANKS who posted 15 points.
D'AVIYON MAGAZINE chipped in nine points while
SAMMIE DUFEK contributed eight points and a team-high seven rebounds.
St. Edward's falls to 5-1 on the year and 1-1 on the LSC. They return to action for a non-conference rematch with Commerce, hosting the Lions on Saturday, December 7 at 1 pm.
