AUSTIN, Texas – St. Edward's volleyball gave nationally-ranked Angelo State all they could handle but eventually fell 3-0 to the #17 team in the nation.
Set one was back and forth throughout, tied as late as 20-20. ASU took a crucial three-point lead, 23-20. An SEU timeout could not stop the run as the Rams took set one 25-20.
SEU fell behind early in the second set, trailing by as many as ten, 21-11. The Hilltoppers rallied, pulling within three, 24-21. The Rams were able to get the final point, however, putting St. Edward's in a 2-0 hole.
It was a mirror image of set one in the third set as the teams battled for control. Angelo State led by five, 22-17, but SEU refused to give in and battled back within two, 24-22. The deficit proved to be too much as the Rams closed out the set 25-23.
SEU was held to just .054 attack percentage and was led by MADDIE MIKSCH who posted eight kills in the loss. MAYA SMALLS and KATARINA MENDEZ logged six kills each while MADISON HEALD led with 19 assists. Nicole Grant posted 16 digs while Smalls and Mendez posted two blocks assists.
The Hilltoppers fall to 15-8 on the year and 10-5 in Lone Star Conference play. They return to action on Saturday to close out the regular season against Lubbock Christian at 1 pm.
