AUSTIN, Texas – St. Edward's overcame a 12-0 deficit to start the game to win by eight points, 73-65, over Colorado School of Mines Saturday afternoon in the final game of the RMAC/LSC Challenge.
Mines was firing on all cylinders to start the game while the Hilltoppers struggled to find their rhythm and fell behind early.
D'AVIYON MAGAZINE got SEU back on track with a three and by halftime Mines' lead was down to nine, 40-31.
In a reversal of roles, St. Edward's opened the second half on a 12-2 run to lead for the first time in the contest, 43-42, after
CHRISTINA MASON's three-pointer with 6:38 to play in the quarter.
The lead changed back and forth the remainder of the third quarter and Mines took a slight three-point lead, 52-49, into the final frame.
Dejiah Blanks hit a pair of free throws with just under three minutes remaining in the game to put SEU on top 64-62 and the Hilltoppers never trailed again, securing the win on the defensive end.
St. Edward's shot 38.6% from the floor and 39.3% from three-point range and was led by Magazine who posted 16 points on 6-12 shooting from the floor, 4-8 from long range.
CHRISTINA MASON chipped in 12 points and a team-high five assists with Blanks contributing 10 points.
SEU improves to 2-0 on the season with the win and remain at home to face Southwestern at 5:30 pm on Tuesday, November 12.
