Box Score AUSTIN, Texas - After a prolonged wait due to weather the St. Edward's Women's Tennis team finally returned to the court, facing Trinity (TX) for a match Thursday morning.
The Hilltoppers started strong, winning all three doubles matches handily to go up 1-0.
PAO CARPIO and
LOLI PERIM set the tone at #3 doubles, winning 6-2. Hayward/Martinez (#1) and Malazonia/Guillen (#2) quickly followed suit, both winning 6-3 to complete the doubles sweep.
VALENTINA MARTINEZ rode the momentum into singles play, quickly defeating Flores 6-1, 6-1 at #5 singles while
KATE MALAZONIA defeated Kuloch in #1 singles 6-2, 6-0. A 6-4, 6-3 win in the #2 slot by
BETH HAYWARD secured the win for the Hilltoppers as they went up 4-0.
ELISA GUILLEN edged out Rafferty 7-6 by dominating the tie breaker and went on to take set two 6-1 in #6 singles. Carpio was edged out in straight sets at #4 singles 6-3, 6-4 but
LAURA GALVAN ended the match on a high-note for SEU with a tough win over DeLeon at #3, 6-4, 5-7, 10-4.
"It felt good to finally play some tennis," said Head Coach Kendall Brooks. " This match was exactly what we needed. Trinity always competes hard and everyone got challenged in different ways which will help us going forward."
SEU improves to 2-0 on the year and return home to face Angelo State on Saturday at 1 pm.
