Box Score AUSTIN, Texas – A thrilling match did not go the way of the Hilltoppers as it came down to the final points Saturday, falling 4-3 to Angelo State.
 
St. Edward's started well, winning two of three doubles matches to go up 1-0 early. PAO CARPIO and LOLI PERIM made quick work of their match at #3 doubles, winning 6-1. KATE MALAZONIA and ELISA GUILLEN dropped their #2 doubles match 6-4, but BETH HAYWARD and VALENTINA MARTINEZ handed the Hilltoppers the point, winning 7-6 in the #1 slot.
 
Martinez continued her strong play in her singles match, easily defeating Gubbels 6-3, 6-1 to put SEU up 2-0. Trinity responded with a win of their own as Malazonia was bested 6-3, 6-1 at #1 singles by Gonzalez.
 
BETH HAYWARD fell 6-4, 6-3 at #2 singles and LAURA GALVAN dropped her #3 singles matchup 2-6, 6-1, 6-1. A crucial win at #4 singles by Carpio, 2-6, 6-4, 7-5, tied the match 3-3 for the Hilltoppers.
 
Guillen battled in #6 singles but was unable to pull out the win, falling 4-6, 6-5, 7-6.
 
SEU falls to 2-1 on the year with the loss. They return to action on Tuesday, February 19 at 3:30 pm, facing Tarleton State in Stephenville, Texas.
