AUSTIN – Oklahoma Christian scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning and held on the rest of the way to defeat St. Edward's in the rubber match of a three-game, Heartland Conference series on Saturday at Lucian-Hamilton Field.
The Eagles (17-7, 2-1 HC) took advantage of two errors by the Hilltoppers (12-16, 1-2 HC) in the decisive frame to score a trio of runs.
Meanwhile, Hayden Barber hurled four shutout frames, allowing only a walk and a hit, to pick up his second save in as many games.
St. Edward's out-hit Oklahoma Christian 10-6.
MORGAN ALLEN led the offensive charge with a 3 for 5 performance that included a double and three RBIs.
ROBBIE LAMMONS had two hits and drove in a run.
The Eagles jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after scoring in their first at-bat. The Hilltoppers pulled even in the bottom of the third as
DYLAN MACKIN drove in Allen from third base, and Mackin later scored on Lammons' sacrifice fly.
The 'Toppers took a one-run advantage in the following stanza as Allen hit a single through the left side of the infield that plated
TY MARKEE.
Oklahoma Christian struck for three runs in the top of the fifth that gave the visitors a 5-3 advantage.
However, St. Edward's matched it in the bottom of the inning as
JAKE HAHN picked up a run-scoring and Allen drove in two more on a single through the middle of the infield.
Lammons singled in the sixth, but it was the final hit the Hilltoppers would collect during the game.
Only two more SEU players reached base in the final three panels, including Hahn who drew a two-out walk in the ninth.
TYLER INGRAM (0-1) was saddled with the loss. The righty allowed three unearned runs in an inning of work.
Jake Tomcheck (2-0) received the win after giving up a run on two hits and a walk in one frame.
St. Edward's will close out its home stand on Tuesday, March 26, against Houston-Victoria. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
