CLAREMORE, Okla. – St. Edward's pounded out 18 hits en route to a 16-3 victory over Rogers State to claim the Heartland Conference series on Saturday at the Diamond Sports Complex.
The Hilltoppers (15-17, 3-3 HC) had seven players with multiple hits, including four with three knocks apiece.
ZACH SHEPHERD led the way with a 3 for 4 performance that included a grand slam and five RBIs.
BLAKE HOLUB and
MORGAN ALLEN pushed their respective hitting streaks to six games. Holub was 3 for 4 with an RBI, while Allen had two hits, drove in a run and scored three times.
St. Edward's scored runs in six of the seven innings before the game was called due to the conference's run rule.
The Hilltoppers plated three runs in the second to take an early lead.
TY MARKEE and
TRENT ROSENAUER both logged RBI singles in the frame.
An inning later, four runners crossed the plate to give SEU a 7-0 advantage.
St. Edward's had a 10-3 lead in the sixth when Rosenauer drove in two on a single to right field.
The Hilltoppers loaded the bases ahead of Shepherd in the seventh before he turned on the first pitch from Case Woodard and hit it over the wall in right field.
NATHAN MEDRANO (1-3) allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits to pick up the win. The righty walked three and struck out two in his longest start of the season.
St. Edward's will return to Austin to host Arkansas-Fort Smith in a three-game league series next weekend. The set will open Friday with a doubleheader at Lucian-Hamilton Field. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.

• St. Edward's pitching staff logged a 0.82 ERA and held Rogers State to a .197 batting average in the series.
