Compare St. Edward's hitters and pitchers across available college seasons. Two-way players can be compared separately in either role. Scores describe statistical resemblance, not a projection or probability.
How baseball comparisons work
The reference column implements a continuous version of Baseball Reference's published difference penalties: start at 1000, subtract each absolute statistical difference divided by its listed increment, then apply known position or throwing-hand adjustments. Hitter rates are recomputed from aggregate counts; pitcher rates use exact outs. This is not a reproduction of Baseball Reference's full database or its age comparisons. Missing fields are omitted and the shared field count is shown; incomplete reference scores can be optimistic. Generic INF, UTL or P labels do not receive invented precise fielding positions.
The college combined score is 49.5% playing style, 27% production, 13.5% unadjusted reference score divided by ten, and 10% position or pitching-usage similarity. Missing components are omitted and weights renormalized. The reference component excludes its position/hand adjustment to avoid counting position twice. Known hitter position values use the source's catcher, shortstop, second base, third base, outfield, first base and DH hierarchy. Multiple specific positions use an equal average of their listed values; this is not a games-at-position weighting. Pitcher role similarity compares start frequency. Handedness affects the separate reference score when known.
Hitter style weights: isolated power 25%, walk rate 20%, strikeout rate 20%, home-run rate 15%, stolen-base rate 10%, extra-base-hit share 10%. Hitter production: AVG 25%, OBP 30%, SLG 30%, AB opportunity 15%. Pitcher style: K/9 30%, BB/9 30%, innings per appearance 20%, start frequency 10%, save frequency 10%. Pitcher production: ERA 35%, WHIP 30%, H/9 20%, outs recorded 15%. Rates use aggregated counts, not averages of season percentages. Plate appearances include AB, BB, HBP, SF and SH; if these are missing, the relevant PA rates are unavailable. Minimum shared coverage: 60% style, 70% production and 70% reference fields. Fixed difference scales are listed in the source code.
The published pitcher caps on winning-percentage and ERA differences are applied; the win-percentage penalty is capped by wins/losses differences. The reliever win-percentage discount applies when both profiles meet the source's reliever definition, keeping pair comparisons symmetric. A throwing-hand mismatch uses the reliever penalty when either profile is a reliever. Wins reflect team context, so the separate college model emphasizes rates and usage.
Minimum samples: 30 AB for hitters or 10 innings for pitchers. Fewer than 100 AB or 30 innings is labeled provisional. These are college sample choices, not Baseball Reference's eligibility thresholds. Career totals stop at the selected year. Available-career opponents use all recorded seasons; same-stage opponents use their first N recorded seasons. The first recorded year may not be the start of a college career. Single-season mode finds each opponent's best recorded season. Current roster players without published statistics receive an availability message. Transfer-school stats are excluded. The saved web archive begins in 2011; careers extending before that year can be incomplete. Existing record-book anchors remain in the milestone cards and are not used to fabricate full comparison profiles.
Automatic refreshes use the tracker's existing verified roster and cumulative-statistics pipeline on gohilltoppers.com. New statistics replace the corresponding season before recalculating scores. Baseball Reference similarity method
