St. Edward's topples No. 1 Angelo State in 10 innings, 7-6

AUSTIN – BLAKE HOLUB hit a walk-off single in the 10th inning, sending RYAN MCPHAIL plateward, as St. Edward's knocked off No. 1 Angelo State, 7-6, on Tuesday at Lucian-Hamilton Field.

The Hilltoppers (22-25), who snapped the Rams' 17-game winning streak, were forced into an extra frame after Angelo State scored the tying run on an error with two outs in the ninth inning.

McPhail started the rally in the 10th after being hit by a pitch. DYLAN MACKIN then lined a single that caromed off the pitcher and allowed McPhail to race around to third base. After taking the first pitch for a strike, Holub drove the second offering from Josh Barnett into right-center field. McPhail trotted home as the SEU players raced onto the field to greet him and Holub.

St. Edward's trailed by two runs until Mackin's RBI groundout in the fourth cut the deficit in half. The 'Toppers scored three times in the fifth, including one on Mackin's triple to left center.

Each team hit a solo homer in the sixth. ZACH SCHINDLER turned on an 0-1 pitch and hammered it over the wall in left in the bottom-half of the panel, which pushed SEU's lead to 5-3.

Angelo State (42-8) pulled even in the eight, scoring a run on an error and then one unearned run on a single.

St. Edward's jumped back in front in the bottom of the stanza, as MORGAN ALLEN dumped a single into right field, allowing Mackin to cross the plate.

The Hilltoppers amassed 11 hits in their home finale. Mackin led the way with a 3 for 5 performance that included a triple and two RBIs.

NICK DAVIS (2-0) received the win after holding the Rams scoreless in the top of the 10th. Barnett (5-1) was handed his first loss of the year, as the right-hander gave up the winning run on two hits and he hit a batter.

Prior to the game, St. Edward's honored its 15 seniors.

The Hilltoppers will travel to Laredo this weekend to close out the regular season in a pivotal series at Texas A&M International. St. Edward's trails both St. Mary's and Oklahoma Christian by one game for the final playoff spot.
