KINGSVILLE – St. Edward's volleyball opened the 2019 Emerald Beach Hotel Invitational in impressive fashion, hitting .310 on their way to a 3-0 win over Edinboro Friday morning.
SEU hit .286 in the opening set, winning 25-22 to start the match on the right note. The Hilltoppers posted a 5-0 run midway through a tight second set to take the lead at a crucial point. With the match tied 24-24, St. Edward's took a one point lead, taking advantage of a Scots attack error. Nikki Grant secured the 26-24 set two win with an ace.
The momentum swung right into the third set as SEU dominated, winning 25-11. St. Edward's started on a 5-1 run and had two more crucial runs while hitting .429 in the set to secure the win.
ALEXA MCANDREW led with 10 kills and added 11 digs in the win.
KATARINA MENDEZ was close behind with nine kills while posting an impressive .692 attack percentage. Grant led the Hilltoppers with 12 digs while
EMILY TRAN added 15 assists.
SEU closes day one against Southwest Baptist at 3 pm.
