KINGSVILLE, Texas – St. Edward's volleyball looked in near postseason form in their second match on Friday, defeating Southwest Baptist 25-20, 25-10, 25-22.
St. Edward's fell behind early in the first set, 5-1, but quickly regrouped and were able to tie the set 11-11 on KERSTYNN GROBE's kill. After trading points the Hilltoppers took a crucial two point lead, 20-18 on LAURA DOOCY's kill and closed out the set.
SEU opened the second set on a 12-2 run and never looked back, allowing just ten points to SBU to win 25-10. Southwest Baptist attempted to put up a fight in the final set, but kills from MELISSA MCNEIL and MYKAYLA TIMLIN put the Hilltoppers up 22-19 before closing out the set 25-22.
St. Edward's hit .309 as a team and were led by McNeil and KATARINA MENDEZ who posted 10 kills each. EMILY TRAN had 25 assists while running the offense.
SEU improves to 4-2 on the year and remain in Kingsville to face Westminster and Augustana on Saturday.
