Offensive dominance lifts volleyball to sweep

AUSTIN – St. Edward's volleyball rebounded with an easy 3-0 win over Eastern New Mexico Saturday afternoon, defeating the Greyhounds 25-17, 25-18, 25-18, while hitting .336 for the match.

A shaky start to the match after an emotional contest last night gave way to dominating defense and hard-hitting offense as the Hilltoppers embarked on a 9-0 run midway through the set, winning set one 25-17.

ENMU once again started set two strong, building a four-point lead, 5-1. SEU clawed back and eventually tied the set 10-10 before posting an 8-3 run to lead 18-13. The Hilltoppers never allowed the Greyhounds back in the set, winning 25-18.

Even with some new faces on the court, SEU didn't miss a beat in the third set and never trailed after taking the lead 7-6 to close out the match.

KATARINA MENDEZ led with 12 kills on the afternoon while ALEXA MCANDREW added nine while hitting .360. EMILY TRAN and MADISON HEALD expertly ran the offense, recording 21 and 19 assists, respectively. CAMILLE DEDEAUX posted 15 digs to lead defensively while McAndrew added 12.

The Hilltoppers improve to 7-5 on the year and 2-2 in Lone Star Conference play while Eastern New Mexico drops to 2-10 overall, 0-3 in the LSC. St. Edward's returns to the road to face UT Permian Basin on Thursday, October 3 at 7 pm.
