Box Score DENVER, Colo. – The 2019 season is upon Head Coach Nick Cowell and the Hilltopper women's soccer team and they wasted no time testing their squad, facing #11 Western Washington Saturday afternoon. SEU played extremely well in the opener, but fell 1-0 after a goal in the 83
rd minute.
Just one minute into the contest the Hilltoppers threatened with their first solid look at goal as
REAGAN DYKES' shot off of
ELI CHAVEZ's corner was blocked and resulted in another SEU corner.
SARAH PRESTON's shot off the resulting corner sailed just high of the crossbar and out of harm's way. It was an incredibly even first half with SEU posting seven shots and WWU eight shots with each team earning two corners.
The Vikings came out of halftime with renewed vigor, earning two shots and two corners in the first five minutes. In the 83
rd minute Western Washington scored the game-winner as Emily Nelson headed home a crossing ball.
ELI CHAVEZ led with four shots on the afternoon while
ANNABEL SWEENEY recorded five saves on 16 shots.
St. Edward's starts the season at 0-1 and returns to action on Monday to face MSU Denver at 4 pm.
