ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – St. Edward's volleyball's offense had another strong showing on day two, falling 3-2 to Henderson State before defeating Ouachita Baptist 3-1.
GAME 1: SEU 2 – HENDERSON STATE 3
St. Edward's started strong, leading by seven midway through the first set, 15-8. Henderson State closed the frame on a 13-2 run, however, stealing the first set 25-23.
A pair of 5-0 scoring runs late in the second set gave the Hilltoppers the win 25-21, evening the match 1-1.
Neither team was able to pull away in set three until the Reddies posted a four-point lead 23-19 en route to a 25-20 win.
SEU rebounded quickly, jumping ahead 7-4 in the fourth set. SEU led 20-12 and were able to fend off the HSU final push, closing out the fourth set 25-21 to even the count 2-2.
Set five was a nail biter as teams traded points throughout the early part of the set. HSU took a crucial 10-6 lead and held off SEU the rest of the way to secure the win.
KATARINA MENDEZ led with 18 kills with a .357 attack percentage while
ALEXA MCANDREW added 15 kills and
MYKAYLA TIMLIN ten. McAndrew posted 17 digs with
EMILY TRAN adding 32 assists to lead the Hilltoppers.
GAME 2: SEU 3 – OBU 1
St. Edward's hit .500 for the first set but still dropped the set 25-20. The Hilltopper offense continued to execute and hit .432 to win the second set 28-26.
From there SEU just got more dominant, taking sets three and four 25-23 and 25-18 to secure the win.
MELISSA MCNEIL led with 16 kills, hitting .412 with two aces while
MADDIE MIKSCH added 11 kills with a .529 attack percentage.
MADISON HEALD posted 29 assists with
EMILY TRAN adding 26.
CAMILLE DEDEAUX led SEU with 16 digs.
McAndrew and Tran were selected to the All-Tournament team at the end of the weekend.
SEU moves to 2-2 on the year and return to action on Friday, September 13 in Kingsville, Texas, facing Edinboro at 10:30 am.
