LAWTON, Okla. – St. Edward's suffered an 81-73 loss to Cameron University Saturday after being out-rebounded 51-30 in the contest.
SEU started well and led by five, 18-13, with just under five minutes remaining in the first, but their stout offense went silent over the next three minutes.
HALEY BLANKINSHIP got St. Edward's back on track with a three and a jumper in the final minute and a half to send the Hilltoppers into the second quarter up 23-22.
SEU's offensive woes continued into the second quarter as they were held to just three field goals and 11 points in the frame and trailed 39-34 at the break.
The Hilltoppers came out of halftime with renewed focus and returned to form offensively, but Cameron got hot from deep and went 4-7 from three-point range to maintain 59-53 advantage over SEU.
St. Edward's clawed back into the game and took the lead with 6:26 remaining, 67-66, on
JAZMINE JACKSON's layup. After four lead changes over the next four minutes Cameron was able to hold off the Hilltoppers by securing the win from the free throw line.
DEIJAH BLANKS led with 22 points while shooting 53.3 percent from the field. Charlie Becker added 12 points while Jackson, Becker and
SAMMIE DUFEK all posted five rebounds to lead the Hilltoppers.
SEU falls to 9-5 on the season and 5-4 in Lone Star Conference play. The return home to face Texas A&M-Kingsville on Thursday, January 16 at 5:30 pm.
