AUSTIN – DEIJAH BLANKS poured in a game-high 27 points to lead St. Edward's to a 75-55 victory over Texas A&M-Kingsville Thursday night at the Recreation and Athletics Center (RAC).
After a close first quarter, the Hilltoppers (10-5, 6-4 LSC) was able to take a 44-36 lead into halftime.
HALEY BLANKINSHIP closed out the first half with a 3-pointer to put the home team up by eight points.
D'AVIYON MAGAZINE hit a 3-pointer to open the third quarter, while
DEIJAH BLANKS connected for a layup after a
SAMMIE DUFEK steal to give SEU a 13-point cushion.
St. Edward's also used a 9-0 run in the middle of the third to take a 58-39 advantage.
A trio of free throws from
CHRISTINA MASON in the final period increased the Hilltoppers' lead to 70-50.
The two teams split the final 10 points of the contest, as the 'Toppers cruised to the 20-point victory.
Blanks was joined in double figures by
JAZMINE JACKSON, who scored 12. SEU also welcomed back
MARYAM WILCHER, who saw her first action since Nov. 23 following an injury. Wilcher scored seven points in her return to the floor.
St. Edward's will return to action Saturday, as the squad is set to host Texas A&M International. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the RAC.
