AUSTIN – DEIJAH BLANKS reached double figures for the 11th consecutive game to lead St. Edward's to a 67-52 victory over Texas A&M International in Lone Star Conference (LSC) play Saturday at the Recreation and Athletics Center.
Blanks led all players with 18 points, 10 of which came in the first half.
The Hilltoppers (11-5, 7-4 LSC) shot 47.2 percent (25 of 53) from the field and held the Dustdevils (7-10, 4-7 LSC) to just 36.2 percent shooting.
The two teams played even in the opening quarter, but SEU took a 32-29 lead into the locker room at the half, thanks again to a 3-pointer by
HALEY BLANKINSHIP with 1:39 left in the second quarter.
Texas A&M International was able to retake the advantage and held a 44-41 lead with 3:14 left in the third quarter. However,
LEXI CUNNINGHAM buried her third triple of the game to tie the contest.
Blankinship then added another 3-pointer with 2:33 left in the period, which gave St. Edward's a 47-44 advantage.
The Hilltoppers scored the final four points of the quarter to take a 51-46 lead.
The Dustdevils scored the first two points of the final period, but SEU used an 8-0 spurt to take control of the game.
D'AVIYON MAGAZINE, who hit a jumper to cap the run, added a 3-pointer seconds later to push the lead to 12.
A pair of free throws from Blanks with 1:01 left in the contest gave St. Edward's a 66-52 advantage.
FAIREN SUTTON added another from the charity stripe to cap the scoring for the day.
SAMMIE DUFEK pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds and posted four blocked shots, which moved her into fifth all-time in the Hilltopper record book.
Cunningham, Magazine and
CHRISTINA MASON all netted 9 points.
St. Edward's will hit the road next week to play at Angelo State and No. 2 Lubbock Christian.
