AUSTIN – DEIJAH BLANKS led all scorers with 25 points, while
LEXI CUNNINGHAM chipped in with 18 off the bench to lead St. Edward's to a 79-66 win over Oklahoma Christian Thursday night at the RCC.
The Hilltoppers (8-3, 4-2 LSC) shot 78.6 percent (11 of 14) in the first period to build a 28-22 advantage. SEU took a 39-35 lead into halftime.
The Eagles (3-7, 3-3 LSC) scored the first four points of the second half to pull even with St. Edward's. The two teams exchanged buckets before the 'Toppers ripped off a 9-0 run to build a 52-43 advantage.
Oklahoma Christian was able to get within two points (55-53) with 2:22 left in the third period, but St. Edward's responded with a 7-2 spurt to push the lead to 62-55 before the final quarter.
Cunningham opened the fourth with a 3-pointer to stretch the lead to 10. The closest the Eagles were able to get was within six points, but SEU quickly doubled the advantage (75-63).
Blanks sealed the win with back-to-back layups to cap the scoring for St. Edward's.
Blanks and Cunningham were joined in double figures by
CHARLI BECKER, who put in 12 points.
SAMMIE DUFEK brought down 10 rebounds.
The Hilltoppers will host UAFS Saturday to close out the home stand. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
