AUSTIN – The No. 7 St. Edward's men's basketball team posted a 93-75 win over UA Fort Smith Saturday to improve to 12-1 on the season and 6-1 in Lone Star Conference play. SEU never trailed in the contest and is a perfect 9-0 at home.
The Hilltoppers wasted no time taking control of the contest, opening on a 9-0 run but led by just seven at the break, 48-41, after UAFS closed the half on a 10-4 run.
COREY SHERVILL had an impressive first half, going 7-9 from the field and 2-4 from three-point range for 16 points and five rebounds in 19 minutes of action.
The Lions started the second half strong behind the play of Brian Halums, pulling within six points two minutes in, 52-46. SEU responded with a big run that was capped-off by three three-pointers followed by the exclamation dunk by
ASHTON SPEARS. After all was said and done the Hilltoppers led by 24, 75-51 with just under ten minutes remaining.
St. Edward's maintained a 20-point advantage until the final minute to close out the win, 93-75.
SEU shot 61.1 percent from the floor and was led by
DORIAN LOPEZ who posted 20 points on 7-10 shooting from the field, 4-7 from three-point range. Shervill ended with 18 points and a team high eight boards while Spears added 13 points.
JAKE KRAFKA added 12 points and
LUCAS DORIA 10 in the win.
The Hilltoppers return to the road for the first time since November 23, facing Midwestern State on Thursday, January 9 at 7:30 pm.
