AUSTIN – St. Edward's picked up a crucial Lone Star Conference victory Thursday night, as the Hilltoppers defeated UT Permian Basin, 78-62, at the RAC.
St. Edward's (14-9, 10-8 LSC) outscored the Falcons (9-15, 6-12 LSC) 20-13 in the third quarter to put some distance between the two teams.
CHARLI BECKER scored 7 of her game-high 20 points in the third frame that put the 'Toppers up 52-42 before the final period.
SEU kept its double-digit lead the remainder of the game before securing the win.
The Hilltoppers shot 42.9 percent from the field, despite hitting only 26.1 percent (6 of 23) of their shots from beyond the arc. St. Edward's also outrebounded the Falcons, 47-35, and scored 29 points off of the 23 turnovers forced.
Three other Hilltoppers joined Becker in double figures.
MARYAM WILCHER racked up 13 points, while
DEIJAH BLANKS and
D'AVIYON MAGAZINE scored 11 apiece.
Meanwhile,
JAZMINE JACKSON pulled down a game-best 12 rebounds.
St. Edward's held a 19-15 lead after the first 10 minutes of action. The 'Toppers then pushed their advantage to 34-29 at the half.
SEU will continue its final home stand of the regular season Saturday, as the Hilltoppers host Western New Mexico. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
