AUSTIN – The St. Edward's women's basketball team closed out its home regular-season slate Saturday with a 100-59 victory against Western New Mexico.
The Hilltoppers (15-9, 11-8 LSC) reached the century mark for the first time since Dec. 8, 2016.
St. Edward's also kept pace with rival St. Mary's for the eighth spot in the conference standings. The spot is the last to host a first-round LSC Tournament game.
The Hilltoppers shot 50.6 percent (40 of 79) from the field. Five players reached double figures, led by
DEIJAH BLANKS and
CHARLI BECKER, both of whom scored 14 points.
LEXI CUNNINGHAM added 13, while
JAZMINE JACKSON scored 12 and
MARYAM WILCHER tallied 11. Jackson and Wilcher both racked up double-doubles, as Jackson posted 14 rebounds, while Wilcher had 10.
St. Edward's held a 95-59 lead in the final two minutes before
PHYDEL NWANZE came off the bench and scored back-to-back buckets to get the squad to within one point of the century mark.
CHRISTINA MASON's free throw with 22 seconds left in the game allowed the 'Toppers to reach the milestone.
Following the game, St. Edward's honored its four seniors in a ceremony on the court, as Blanks, Cunningham, Wilcher and
FAIREN SUTTON wrapped up their final regular season at home.
The Hilltoppers will hit the road for the next two weeks, playing its final three regular-season contests. SEU will travel to Denton next Thursday to take on Texas Woman's. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Denton.
