AUSTIN – St. Edward's pushed its winning streak to six games after completing the sweep of rival St. Mary's on Sunday at Lucian-Hamilton Field. The Hilltoppers closed out the set with an 8-3 victory.

DANTE GUTIERREZ launched a three-run homer in the opening frame to put St. Edward's (7-7, 7-7 LSC) on top early.

After St. Mary's (6-8, 6-8 LSC) picked up a run in the top of the third, SEU answered with two in the fifth. JACOB VASQUEZ drove in one on a double down the left-field line, while MORGAN ALLEN scored on BLAKE HOLUB's groundout.

The Hilltoppers added three more in the sixth to take an 8-1 advantage.

St. Edward's loaded the bases before Allen drew a five-pitch walk that forced ZANE PHELPS across the dish. A balk then allowed TYLER DEAN to touch home plate. Vasquez drove in his second run of the day on a sacrifice fly to cap the scoring.

The Rattlers picked up two runs in the eighth, but it was not enough to get close to the Hilltoppers.

TYLER BROWN (2-0) earned the win on the mound. The lefty struck out eight and allowed only one run in seven strong innings.

Connor Schmidt (0-1) was saddled with the loss after giving up five runs on six hits and two walks over 4.2 innings.

St. Edward's tallied seven hits at the plate. Holub collected two knocks in four at-bats. He also drove in a run. Gutierrez was 1 for 4 with his first homer and three RBIs. Vasquez had a double and drove in a pair. Dean scored twice and had a double.

The Hilltoppers will travel to Kingsville next weekend for a four-game series against No. 22 Texas A&M-Kingsville.
