LAREDO, Texas – St. Edward's men's basketball posted an impressive 51-11 run on their way to an 86-59 win over Texas A&M International Thursday. The win improves the Hilltoppers to 20-2 on the year and 13-2 in Lone Star Conference play.
SEU started well but the DustDevils hung close until late, allowing the Hilltoppers to mount a 20-point lead, 40-20, by halftime.
It was all St. Edward's in the second half as well as SEU continued to build on their lead and were never threatened.
The Hilltoppers shot 46.9 percent from the floor and 35.5 percent from three-point range. Defensively, SEU forced 21 turnovers and outrebounded TAMIU 36-30.
ASHTON SPEARS led with 30 points, going 10-13 from the floor, 6-8 from three-point range and 4-4 from the free throw line.
DORIAN LOPEZ and
LUCAS DORIA added 13 points each with both grabbing a team-high nine rebounds.
St. Edward's remains on the road to face Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday at 4 pm.
