Late match surge falls short in 3-2 loss at West Texas A&M

Box Score CANYON, Texas – After falling behind 2-0, St. Edward's women's soccer strung together two goals in 20 minutes but were unable to keep out the game-winner, scored in the 65th minute, as the Hilltoppers fell 3-2 to West Texas A&M Wednesday evening.
 
A quiet first half on the scoring front reversed course at halftime as both teams turned up the heat offensively. Less than two minutes into the second frame, WTAMU broke the stalemate and added another goal in the 55th minute to put the Hilltoppers in a 2-0 hole.
 
SEU's KATIE GAY pulled St. Edward's within one, scoring unassisted following a free kick in the 63rd minute.
 
The Buffs quickly responded, scoring the eventual game winner in the 65th minute.
 
With fresh legs on the pitch, the Hilltoppers continued their attack and were able to pull within one goal once again with REAGAN DYKES finding ASHLEY WILSON in the 84th minute. SEU fired off three shots in the final six minutes but were unable to find the equalizer.
 
The Hilltoppers trailed 24-14 in shots and 7-4 in corners in the match. ABBY CARLSON posted 11 saves in the loss while Gay led offensively with five shots, three on frame, with one goal.
 
St. Edward's falls to 7-4-2 on the season and 5-2-1 in Lone Star Conference play. They return home to host Texas A&M-Commerce on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 4 pm.
