AUSTIN – Four seniors were honored for their contributions before the St. Edward's Volleyball team downed Midwestern State 3-0 Saturday afternoon.
The Hilltopper offense was outstanding in the first set, hitting .531 in the opening set to cruise to the 25-11 win.
As the second set got underway, SEU went up by five 10-5 and seemed to be on the path to recreate the first set. MSU hung around and evened the count 12-12. St. Edward's put together another run and were able to go up by five once again 21-16.
With the Hilltoppers edging towards the set win the Mustangs continued to fight and got within two, but a big kill by
CAROLINE SWAN sealed the win 25-22.
A 6-0 run midway through the third set proved to be the difference maker as the Hilltoppers led 10-8 after trailing early. St. Edward's led 23-17 but struggled to close the win until back to back kills by
KAITLYN KRAFKA and
MAYA SMALLS secured the win 25-21.
SEU hit .314 for the match and was led by Krafka who unloaded for 17 kills with a .424 attack percentage. Swan added ten kills with
EMILY TRAN posting 36 assists.
SARAH KONOVODOFF was sensational defensively with a team high 17 digs with Tran adding 13 and Krafka ten.
JILLIENNE CONNELL continued her dominant play at the net with five block assists.
St. Edward's improves to 11-9 on the year and 6-7 in Lone Star Conference play. They return to the road to face Texas A&M-Kingsville to open up their final regular season road trip on Friday, November 5 at 6 pm.
