Volleyball takes down TAMUK in straight sets

KINGSVILLE, Texas - St. Edward's volleyball was dominant Friday evening, never allowing more than 17 points in a single set in a 3-0 win over Texas A&M-Kingsville Friday evening.

An early run in the first set saw SEU post a 12-3 lead that was just too much for the Javelinas to overcome as the Hilltoppers won 25-12.

St. Edward's continued their momentum and jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the second set. TAMUK was able to pull within three points, but SEU closed the set by outscoring the Javelinas 11-2 to win 25-13.

The Kingsville jumped out to an early lead in the third set, 6-1, but it was short-lived as the Hilltoppers were able to get back in the match. A 13-1 run put St. Edward's up 16-8 before the Hilltoppers closed out the match 25-17.

HALLE SANDERS led with eight kills while CAROLINE SWAN and JILLIENNE CONNELL added seven kills each. Connell also led at the net defensively, posting five block assists and one solo block. KAITLYN KRAFKA posted a team-high 11 digs while Swan had six aces.

St. Edward's improves to 12-9 on the year and 7-7 in Lone Star Conference play. They return to action on Saturday, facing Texas A&M International in Laredo, Texas on Saturday at 1 pm.
