SAN ANTONIO – St. Edward's women's basketball forced St. Mary's into 26 turnovers to post a 60-48 win in the first Battle of the Saints match-up of the evening.
SEU led almost the majority of the first half, but despite leading by nearly double-digits the Rattlers were able to battle back to pull within three, 25-22 by the halftime break.
StMU led briefly as the third quarter got underway, but the Hilltoppers were able to close the frame on a 13-4 run to lead by nine, 42-33, heading into the fourth.
A brief run to start the fourth quarter brought St. Mary's within three, 43-40, but once again St. Edward's had the answer and posted a double-digit lead for the first time all game, 52-42, with 5:18 to play. The Hilltoppers cruised to the win, never allowing the Rattlers within striking distance the rest of the way.
Despite hitting just one three-pointer all game, SEU shot 41.8 percent from the floor and earned 13 points from the charity stripe.
CHARLI BECKER led offensively with 14 points, going 6-13 from the field with a team high seven rebounds.
MORGAN GARY added 11 points, three steals and four rebounds while
MCCALL HAMPTON chipped in ten points.
St. Edward's improves to 6-8 on the season and 6-8 in Lone Star Conference play. The return home to host the Rattlers for a rematch on Saturday at 3 pm.
