KINGSVILLE, Texas – St. Edward's women's basketball scored 21 fourth quarter points to secure their second straight win, defeating Texas A&M-Kingsville 60-49 Saturday afternoon.
Kingsville scored the first basket of the game but St. Edward's led the rest of the first quarter and majority of the second, but held just a slight advantage the entire time. The Javelinas hit a jumper as the clock ticked under a minute to take the lead, 26-24.
SAMMIE DUFEK's layup on the ensuing possession tied the game 26-26 as the teams headed to the locker room for the break.
TAMUK was hot out of the gate in the third quarter, starting the frame on a 7-0 run to lead 33-26. SEU responded with an 11-0 run to lead 37-33 with 3:52 to play in the third and St. Edward's held onto the four-point advantage and went into the fourth up 39-35.
The Hilltoppers outscored Kingsville 12-3 in the final five minutes of the game to secure the win.
CHARLI BECKER led with her second career double-double, first of the season, posting 15 points and 10 rebounds while adding a team-high four steals.
JAZMINE JACKSON added 14 points while going 6-10 from the floor and 2-3 from the free throw line and
SAMMIE DUFEK added 12 points and eight rebounds.
St. Edward's improves to 5-7 on the season and 5-7 in Lone Star Conference play. They head to Midwestern State on Monday for their next contest. Game time is set for 5:30 pm.
