AUSTIN – St. Edward's women's basketball ran out of steam late in the game after a quick turnaround from weekend action, falling 74-67 Monday evening to Midwestern State.
SEU controlled most of the first quarter, leading by five points, 15-10, on
CHRISTINA MASON's layup with 2:30 to play. MSU responded and pulled within two, 17-15, by the end of the frame.
The Hilltoppers hit their stride early in the second and led by eight points, 30-22, halfway through the second quarter on
MCCALL HAMPTON's three. St. Edward's took a four point lead, 37-33 into the break.
SEU held onto the lead until 2:48 left in the third quarter as the Mustangs closed the gap and sent the game into the final frame tied 54-54.
St. Edward's briefly led early in the fourth quarter, but once MSU took control they would not give it up. The Mustangs led by 12 with 1:38 to play before closing out the win.
CHRISTINA MASON led the way with 16 points, adding in four assists and two steals while
CHARLI BECKER added in 13 points, going 5-7 from the field.
JAZMINE JACKSON led on the boards with 11 rebounds.
The Hilltoppers fall to 5-8 on the season and 5-8 in Lone Star Conference play. They return home to host Oklahoma Christian for the first of two games on Friday at 5 pm.
