Box Score SAN ANGELO, Texas – An overtime goal off a free kick ended the St. Edward's women's soccer team's postseason run as they fell 1-0 to Angelo State Saturday evening in the Lone Star Conference Championship Semifinal.
Midway through the overtime frame, ASU earned a free kick deep in Hilltopper territory. The Rambelles put a lofting ball into the box that was headed into goal for the game winner.
The match was tight throughout, but the Hilltoppers came out firing, earning multiple shots early in the first half. ASU got off 4 shots in the first half while SEU posted three.
St. Edward's got the first solid look of the second half, but Mary Anne Crowe's shot was saved to just two minutes in to keep the game scoreless.
The match remained scoreless as it rolled into the waning minutes and ASU turned up the heat, firing off multiple shots.
MEGHAN DUNNING and the SEU defense had the answer every time, forcing the game into overtime.
Angelo State took the win in the 94
th minute to stop the Hilltopper's postseason run. St. Edward's trailed 12-6 in shots and were an even 3-3 in corner kicks. Crowe led the way offensively, firing off three shots with two being on frame. Dunning posted six saves in goal.
St. Edward's closes the season with a 5-5 overall record.
