Relentless offense give Hilltoppers run-rule win over UH-Victoria

AUSTIN – St. Edward's baseball took control of the game early and never let up with relentless offense to win 10-0 in seven innings over Houston-Victoria Tuesday.

BLAKE HOLUB started the Hilltoppers off on the right foot in the first inning, sending the first pitch he saw into left center to drive home MORGAN ALLEN who singled to start the game.

The Jaguars moved a runner to third base with one out in the third, but starting pitcher TRENT ROSENAUER took care of business to keep the shutout intact. SEU opened the bottom half of the inning with a double to left by MATTHEW GILES who moved to third on a sacrifice bunt from Allen. Giles scored on a wild pitch to put the Hilltoppers up 2-0.

St. Edward's wasn't done there with CHASE COS reaching on a walk and scored on Holub's bomb to left center, putting SEU on top 4-0.

The Hilltoppers loaded the bases in the fourth with no outs for Allen who drove in two with a double to right center. After Allen scored on a wild pitch, Cos hit a line drive over the left field fence, putting the count at 8-0 through four.

St. Edward's got a two-run single from JAKE HAHN in the sixth to push the lead to ten and the SEU defense took care of the rest.

Holub went 2-3 with three RBIs with a double and a homerun while Allen was perfect at the plate, going 303 with two RBIs and three runs scored.

Rosenauer earned the shutout win on the mound, going four innings and allowing two hits with just one walk and two strikeouts. Relievers BRADY HUCKFELT, DEVEN MCGRATH and JAYSON FLORES combined to allow just one hit to close out the shutout.

St. Edward's improves to 8-15 on the year and move Head Coach Rob Penders within two wins of his 500th career win. The Hilltoppers return to action on Friday, starting a three-game series against Texas A&M International at 2 pm.
