TYLER, Texas – St. Edward's volleyball faced their first ranked opponent of the season in #12 Oklahoma Baptist and suffered their first loss of the season, falling in straight sets 25-15, 25-16, 25-17.
SEU's offense struggled in the first set, posting a -0.087 attack percentage with 12 errors. OBU was steady, hitting .281 to win the first set.
Oklahoma Baptist jumped out to an early 9-2 lead in the second set, but the Hilltoppers continued to fight and pulled within four, 17-13. Another run by OBU put the set out of reach for SEU.
St. Edward's fell behind 6-0 in the third set and never got closer than five points to suffer the loss.
The Hilltoppers were held to just .064 attack percentage in the match while the Bison hit .379.
LOURDES GOMEZ led with nine kills while
HALLE SANDERS posted seven.
EMILY TRAN ran the attack with 24 assists with
SARAH KONOVODOFF leading defensively with 12 digs.
St. Edward's falls to 4-1 on the season. They return to action at 1 pm, facing Southeastern Oklahoma State.
