TYLER, Texas – After a strong start, St. Edward's volleyball was unable to put away Harding as the Bison roared back to win the final three sets and defeat SEU 3-2.
SEU started strong, hitting .312 in the first set on their way to a 25- 15win and followed up with even tougher defense in the second set, holding Hardin to .081 in the set to win 25-19.
Harding was able to rebound and edged out the Hilltoppers in the third set 27-25 and rode the momentum into the fourth set, winning 25-20 to force the fifth and final set.
The Bison were able to pull ahead just enough midway through the set, taking a crucial four point lead 12-8. The lead was enough as St. Edward's could not string together enough points to secure the win.
CAROLINE SWAN led offensively with 18 kills while
LOURDES GOMEZ added 16 and
HALLE SANDERS 12.
EMILY TRAN posted 53 assists while also leading defensively with 19 digs.
St. Edward's drops to 5-2 on the year. They return to action on September 17 as they open Lone Star Conference action at Texas Woman's at 6 pm.
