DENTON, Texas – St. Edward's women's basketball was outscored 26-10 in the second quarter as the fell 70-57 to Texas Woman's Saturday afternoon.
TWU built a lead early, going up by nine points midway through the first quarter. A pair of free throws on their final possession allowed SEU to climb within one point, 14-13 by the end of the first.
SAMMIE DUFEK hit a three to open the second quarter and gave the Hilltoppers the lead, but SEU was scoreless in the final 4:32 of the quarter, sending the Pioneers into the locker room with a 17 point lead, 40-23.
St. Edward's was never able to recover in the second half, trailing by at least double digits the rest of the way.
Dufek led offensively and on the glass with 14 points and ten rebounds.
TAYLOR COCKERILL added 13 points and
LAUREN CATHERMAN 11.
SEU outrebounded TWU 28-25 in the loss, but got just seven points from the free throw line while allowing 18.
St. Edward's falls to 8-7 on the year and 1-3 in Lone Star Conference play. They return home to face West Texas A&M on Thursday, January 13 at 5:30 pm.
