Box Score ODESSA, Texas – The St. Edward's Hilltoppers women's soccer team and host University of Texas Permian Basin Falcons played to a scoreless draw in a physical contest that featured a combined six yellow cards.
Both teams played deadlocked without a shot until Permian Basin's Madi Grace Carriello put one on goal a little more than 20 minutes in on a bottom-center shot stopped by Hilltopper keeper ABBY CARLSON.
St. Edward's threatened with a pair of shots from ELENA RAMOS BANET and KATIE FITZPATRICK less than a minute apart at the 28-minute mark.
A Hilltopper yellow card generated a look for Permian Basin's Natalia Salas to the lower left corner that was turned away by Carlson. Carlson also stopped a Cassandra Ramirez attempt on the ensuing corner kick to keep the match scoreless at the half.
KATIE GAY fired off an early attempt two minutes into the second half on a low kick saved by Falcons' keeper Jenna McEnaney.
Both teams combined for seven wayward shots over the next 25 minutes until the Hilltopper made their last significant push, getting a shot on goal by IZZY SINISCALCHI deflected by McEnaney followed immediately by three consecutive corner kicks that ended without a shot and a missed penalty kick by Gay.
Gay went up top for a final shot in the final two minutes but was rebuffed by McEnaney once more.
St. Edward's generated a 10-7 advantage in shots and a 10-1 edge in corner kicks but was held without a goal for a third consecutive game to leave Odessa with an 8-2-3 record, including 4-1-2 in conference play. The Hilltoppers will return home and host West Texas A&M University on Wednesday, Oct. 12, at 4:00 p.m.
