Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Gabriel Garza

Hilltoppers shoot over 50 percent in loss to Lions

AUSTIN, Texas - Despite shooting over 50 percent on the night from the field, St. Edward's men's basketball suffered the loss at home to an even hotter UAFS team who shot 46.9 percent from the field and 53.3 perfect from three-point range.

After a back and forth first half, it was the Lions who took a slim 38-33 lead into halftime. The Lions six threes in the first half proved to be the difference as the Hilltoppers only shot 36.36 percent from beyond the arc.

With just over four minutes to go in the game, SEU was down by nine and in need of a momentum change. Steals and good shot selections by the Hilltoppers were able to help them cut the deficit to two with just under 30 seconds left in the game.

With seven seconds left, SEU called a timeout to give them one last shot to tie the game. Luke Pluymen's game-tying three-point attempt was blocked and recovered by the Lions with only one second left in the game, ending the Hilltoppers comeback.

The Hilltoppers were led by Uche Dibiamaka, who posted 19 points on 6-7 shooting, 3-3 from three-point range. Jake Krafka added 17 and Daniel Venzant 10.

The loss puts SEU at 12-11 on the year and 6-7 in conference play, while UAFS moves to 12-9 and 6-3 in Lone Star Conference play.

The Hilltoppers are home Saturday as they host Oklahoma Christian in their homecoming game. Tipoff is set for 3:30 pm.
