TYLER, Texas - The St. Edward's women's basketball team lost to UT Tyler 65-50 behind a low-scoring first half.
The Hilltoppers failed to make a field goal in the opening quarter, falling behind 16-6 after the first quarter.
However, in the second quarter, the Hilltoppers shot 50 percent from the field and from three-point range to get back in the game. The Hilltoppers outscored the Patriots 19-13 in the quarter, shrinking the Patriots lead to 29-25 heading into halftime.
In the third quarter, the Hilltoppers again outscored the Patriots to bring the game even closer. As the game entered the final quarter, the score was 44-42, with the Patriots still holding the slight advantage.
In the fourth quarter, the Hilltoppers struggled to drain shots as they shot just over 26 percent from the field. The Hilltoppers offensive struggles allowed the Patriots to run away with the game winning 65-50.
The Hilltoppers were led by Lauren Catherman, who put up 15 points and three rebounds. Taylor Cockerill added 11 points, and Bella Muscoreil eight points and six rebounds.
The loss drops the Hilltoppers' record to 11-16 overall and 4-12 in Lone Star Conference play.
SEU is back on the road Thursday for their regular-season finale against rival St. Mary's. Tip-off is set for 5:30 pm.
