LAREDO, Texas – St. Edward's men's basketball found a way to defeat TAMIU 55-48 in a game that featured offensive struggles for both teams.
After the first half, the Hilltoppers headed into halftime with a slim 22-21 lead. Although SEU held the lead going into halftime, their 33% shooting from the field in the first half was something that would need to improve if they looked to pull away from the Dustdevils in the second half.
Despite only hitting one three in the second half, SEU managed to shoot 42% from the field, which allowed them to regain the lead in a back and forth second half.
Daniel Venzant led the Hilltoppers in scoring with 14, and Uche Dibiamaka added 12 points of his own, as Logan Cook and Jake Krafka led the team in rebounds with seven each.
The Hilltoppers managed to get to the line 18 times in the second half, where they sank 14 of those 18 attempts to put away the Dustdevils for good.
After starting the month of February with two road victories, St. Edward's now sits at 12-10 on the season and 6-6 in Lone Star Conference play.
SEU returns home to kick off homecoming week Thursday night as they host UAFS. Tipoff is set for 7:30 pm.
