St. Edward's Esports wrapped up its Call of Duty and Rocket League Fall schedules over the weekend, competing in the Collegiate Rocket League National Tournament and NACE Call of Duty National Tournament.
The Hilltoppers' Rocket League team entered the tournament as the No. 2-ranked team in the West after a strong regular season highlighted by winning the prestigious Harrisburg University Esports Invitational, defeating several nationally ranked programs.
St. Edward's dropped its first match to eventual national champion Northwood in a best-of-seven and was later eliminated in a third-round match against Fisher that went the distance in a 4-3 decision. St. Edward's roster of
KARIM ITANI (ClukkClukk),
ZACH MOFFATT (Dino),
ANDREW PRILL (Druee), and
KODY RICHARDS (Wellace) posted a 13-2 regular-season record.
Call of Duty team members
DAVID SAUSEDA (Eons),
MAURICIO PALLARES (Thresh), Lucas Muccio (Ballah), and team captain
JOHNNY ALBANO (Vanity) swept Texas A&M International the previous week and defeated Purdue in the quarterfinals but fell one match short of the finals with a loss to Oklahoma Christian on Saturday.
"Both our Rocket League and Call of Duty teams had completely reworked rosters heading into the semester, so we knew it would be a building from the ground-up season," St. Edward's Head Esports Coach Sterling Henderson says. "I couldn't be more proud of what they accomplished while they're working on figuring out how to play with each other and learning new personalities. To kind of hit the reset button on both rosters and still perform at a national level is a huge accomplishment for both teams."
