Volleyball Celebrates Seniors, Goes Four Sets With UT Tyler

AUSTIN, Texas – St. Edward's and UT Tyler went four sets on Senior Day, with the Patriots taking the 3-1 victory, winning 26-24, 25-16, 25-27, 25-20. 
 
In the penultimate match of their college career, St. Edward's got double-digit kills from seniors LAUREN SCOTT and LOURDES GOMEZ, seven kills and 23 assists from NATALIA WALLS, and 18 digs from libero SARAH KONOVODOFF
 
St. Edward's opened an early lead in the first set, going up 9-4 after back-to-back aces from JAZZY WILLIAMS and a kill by Gomez. The Hilltoppers maintained a four-point advantage through much of the set with a balanced attack featuring three kills each from KELLI FORDING, Gomez, and Scott. 
 
Sophie Connor, Shaye Koski, and Maiya Pena brought UT Tyler back, however, combining for 15 kills in the set. The Patriots overtook the Hilltoppers at 21-20 on a kill by Connor, then won in extra points on back-to-back kills by Koski. 
 
Koski continued her momentum in the second set with five more kills in a set the Patriots never trailed. 
 
The Hilltoppers seniors led St. Edward's to an extra-points victory in the third set, getting four kills each from Walls, Scott, and Gomez. Walls was highly efficient with her decision-making, recording four kills on dump sets and eight assists. Konovodoff posted nine of her 18 digs in the set. 
 
Connor and Koski clinched the match with six kills each in the fourth and final set on hitting percentages of .556 and .250. 
 
Gomez led the team with 11 kills, nine digs, and two block assists. Scott and Fording added 10 kills each. Cole finished with four block assists. 
 
The Hilltoppers dropped to 7-20 with a 3-12 conference record after the loss. St. Edward's will close out its regular season on Wednesday at home against Texas A&M International.
