ODESSA, Texas – JOSH GRAHAM drove in three runs, LUKE NEGRETE pitched five solid innings, and St. Edward's baseball completed its four-game sweep of Texas Permian Basin with a 9-3 victory.
St. Edward's led from start to finish, plating two runs in the top of the first inning and six of its nine runs in the first three innings to put the game out of reach early.
TREVOR SEBEK sparked the Hilltoppers with a leadoff double down the left-field line, then scored on CONNOR COX's RBI single to right field. Cox later scored on CULLEN AINSWORTH's groundout to shortstop.
Cox drove in another run in the second with an infield single with runners on the corners, scoring WESTON SYMES, who was hit by a pitch. Mason Hamlin put Texas Permian Basin on the scoreboard with an RBI single to center.
St. Edward's added three more runs in the third, scoring when LUKE JOHNSON walked with bases loaded, followed by a sacrifice fly to left field from Graham, and then a Texas Permian Basin error scored Ainsworth.
Negrete went five complete innings, limiting the Falcons to one run on six hits with two walks and three strikeouts for the win. JARED SCHAEFFER replaced him to start the sixth, surrendering a two-RBI double to Carson Johnson before holding Texas Permian Basin scoreless the rest of the way.
LANCE LITTLE drew a leadoff walk in the seventh, then scored on LUKE JOHNSON's two-out RBI double to left field. Graham followed with an RBI single up the middle to score Johnson. Graham added another RBI single up the middle in the ninth.
Graham hit 2-for-4 with three RBI, Cox went 2-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored, and Little hit 2-for-3 with two walks and two runs scored. Sebek, DAVIS DREWEK, and Johnson each had a hit.
St. Edward's improves to 16-5 with a 14-5 conference record after the weekend. The Hilltoppers will return home to host Texas-Tyler next weekend, with the first game on Friday at 1:00 p.m.
