Four Hilltoppers Earn LSC Track & Field Honors

| By:

The Lone Star Conference released its track and field postseason honors, naming NIGUSOM KNIGHT to the All-LSC First Team and JOSHUA AKIN, NICHOLAS GONZALEZ, and FAITH BROTHERS to the men's and women's All-Academic teams.

The LSC honored 132 student-athletes for their efforts at the 2023 LSC Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships, held May 4-6 in Lubbock, Texas.

The list of all-conference performers includes the first team, which consists of event winners, all members of the winning relay teams, and athletes scoring 14 or more points at the LSC Championships. The second team includes athletes on the second-place relay teams and those scoring 8-13.9 points, while the third team recognizes members of third-place relay teams and athletes scoring 6-7.9 points.

Knight earned 14 points at the Lone Star Conference Championships, placing second in the 10,000-meter run with 32:30.66 and third in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:03.25. He set the school record in both events earlier in the season, running 31:26.25 in the 10,000-meter run at the 2023 95th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays and 14:30.62 at the 2023 Bryan Clay Invitational.

Akin and Gonzales were voted to the 11-man roster for the men's All-Academic team with 4.0 GPAs. Gonzalez posted the Hilltoppers' top time in the 1,500-meter run this season at the 2023 Bryan Clay Invitational, clocking a 3:56.30. He placed seventh in the LSC Championships 1,500-meter finals at 4:02.28. Akin ran St. Edward's third-fastest time in the 1,500 with a time of 3:57.77 and had a season-best 1:59.65 in the 800.

Brothers represented St. Edward's on the women's All-Academic Team 11-woman roster and posted a 4.0 GPA. In addition, she set a school record in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:58.05 at the J Fred Duckett Twilight.
