Volleyball Sweeps Cameron

LAWTON, Okla. – St. Edward's volleyball bounced back with a three-set win over the Cameron Aggies to wrap up its weekend road trip with a 1-1 split, winning 25-16, 26-24, 25-20. 
 
KELLI FORDING led the Hilltoppers with 11 kills, and the defense limited Cameron to under a .100 hitting percentage for the match at .061, setting the tone with nine aces. 
 
St. Edward's set the tone with a 7-0 run to open the match, leading from start to finish in the first set. The Hilltoppers hit .233 with four service aces, limiting Cameron to five kills on a .026 hitting percentage.  
 
The second set was tightly contested, with 14 ties and 11 lead changes. Neither team took more than a five-point lead, which St. Edward's accomplished at 9-4. The Aggies quickly closed the gap to tie the set a 9, and both teams went point for point until LOURDES GOMEZ delivered a kill for set point, and the Toppers took the penultimate set on a bad set to win in extra points. 
 
ADDY BADLEY and Fording had four kills each in the set, and JAIDEN LAVANWAY set the offense with ten assists. 
 
The third set was close through a 17-17 tie until the Hilltoppers reeled off an 8-3 run to clinch the set and match. JORDAN CHAPMAN had back-to-back service aces in the middle of the run, and Fording delivered the final two kills to end the match. 
 
St. Edward's improves to 6-10, including 2-2 in conference play. The Hilltoppers host Lubbock Christian on Friday at 6 p.m., then Eastern New Mexico on Saturday at 2 p.m.
