AUSTIN, Texas – St. Edward's returned to its early-season form with a dominant performance against Cameron, defeating the Aggies in three sets (25-23, 25-17, 25-15) to sweep the two regular-season matches.
GISELLE OJEDA returned to the lineup after missing the previous three matches and immediately bolstered the Hilltoppers' passing, leading the team with 14 digs and 17 receptions.
St. Edward's started the match on fire, opening up an early 8-2 lead highlighted by a pair of aces from
CORA YOUNG and a pair of kills from
KAT NEILLE. Cameron battled back to tie set at 20, taking advantage of four service errors and a balanced attack with a combined 14 kills from seven different attackers.
However, the Hilltoppers were too efficient.
ADDY BADLEY led the Hilltoppers with five kills on a .312 clip, and Neille and
MIA CLAY added four kills each to take the first set.
Badley played clean volleyball, putting down six more kills in the second set, bringing her to 10 without an attack error. The Hilltopper defense limited Cameron to .109 hitting.
Nielle and Badley closed the Aggies out with force in the final set, combining for 11 kills on 25 attacks. The Hilltoppers also had two blocks and three aces.
Badley led St. Edward's with 16 kills on a .357 clip, committing only one attack error. Neille provided a nice one-two punch with 14 kills at a .353 hitting percentage, and Clay contributed 11 kills.
ALTHEA MORRIS set the table with 43 assists, orchestrating a .316 team hitting percentage, and the Hilltoppers also recorded six aces and five block assists.
St. Edward's improves to 9-5 with its first conference win. The Hilltoppers will host Oklahoma Christian tomorrow at 2:00 p.m.
