Volleyball Falls in Five Sets to Oklahoma Christian

AUSTIN, Texas – St. Edward's surrendered a 21-16 lead in the pivotal third set and committed a season-high 30 attack errors in a five-set loss to the Oklahoma Christian Eagles to split this week's pair of home matches.

ADDY BADLEY led St. Edward's with a career-high 26 kills, hitting .205 with three block assists. However, the Hilltoppers hit just .163, tied for the second-least efficient attack of the season.

St. Edward's struggled to find gaps in the defense in the first set. Oklahoma Christian totaled four blocks, including two emphatic stops by Camryn McGough and Avery Cole, to put the Hilltoppers into an early deficit they never recovered from. St. Edward had seven kills and seven attack errors, losing the first set 25-18.

Setter ALTHEA MORRIS found the attack's rhythm in the second set, feeding ADDY BADLEY for eight kills on a .333 clip. Morris also mixed in outsides KAT NEILLE and MIA CLAY for four kills each, and middle CARRINGTON JAIMES for three kills in five attacks to tie the match with a 25-23 win.

St. Edward's appeared to take the momentum in the third set, reeling off a 7-1 run to take a 21-16 lead. However, an attack error ended the run, and Oklahoma Christian managed three aces down the stretch to overtake St. Edward's with a 26-24 win.

The Hilltoppers battled back to tie the set with 19 kills. Badley led the way with seven kills, and Neille provided an efficient counter, throwing down four on nine attacks for the 25-21 win.

St. Edward's finished the fight set with more attack errors (seven) than kills (four) and compounded those struggles with a pair of service errors and a block error to fall 15-11 in the deciding set.

Chloe Jones led Oklahoma Christian with 18 kills on a .200 clip. Neille and Clay had 14 kills each, Morris finished with 57 assists, and JORDAN CHAPMAN had 29 digs.

St. Edward's drops to 9-6 with a 1-3 conference record. The Hilltoppers will host Dallas Baptist and UT-Tyler next weekend, with the first match on Friday at 6:00 p.m.
