Baseball Rallies For 13-8 Win Over Oklahoma Christian

OKLAHOMA CITY – St. Edward's exploded for eight runs in the fifth inning, and DIEGO SOLIS was nearly perfect at the plate to rally the Hilltoppers for a 13-8 victory over the Oklahoma Christian Eagles.

Oklahoma Christian scored three in the first on Jones's sacrifice RBI and Spencer's two-run blast. The Eagles poured in two more runs in the second on an error, then three in the third on two doubles and a sacrifice bunt for the early 8-0 lead.

CONNOR COX got the Hilltopper offense going in the fourth inning with a two-run blast to center field, and Solis followed with a solo blast to left.

BEN SMEDSHAMMER replaced JACK GRANACK on the mound to start the fourth. He struck out two Eagles, leaving two runners stranded. Smedshammer was nearly flawless for his third win of the season, striking out four with only two hits surrendered in three scoreless innings.

In the fifth, St. Edward's batted through the entire lineup. DAVIS DREWEK lined out to right field to open the inning, and then St. Edward's next 10 hitters reached safely, scoring seven runs before the Hilltoppers recorded a second out on WESTON SYMES's sacrifice fly to right field, giving them an 11-8 lead.

TREVOR SEBEK recorded an RBI double, Cox had a two-RBI single, TY MURRAY a two-RBI triple, and Solis an RBI single in the middle of the run. Solis later scored on a wild pitch.

Sebek drove in another run with a sacrifice fly in the seventh, and Drewek drove in Solis for St. Edward's final run in the ninth.

Solis hit 4-for-5 with two RBI and three runs scored, and Cox led the team in RBI with four while scoring two runs on 2-for-5 hitting. DILLON FLORES continued his recent hot streak with a 2-for-4 performance, scoring twice. Sebek, CARLO FIGUEROA, Murray, Drewek, and Symes also had a hit. KEVIN SKWERES pitched three innings and struck out six, allowing no hits or walks, for the save.

St. Edward's improves to 14-16 with a 14-15 conference record. The teams will play again tomorrow in a doubleheader at 2:00 p.m.
