AUSTIN, Texas – St. Edward's dropped two games on Saturday to fall behind 2-1 in the four-game Battle of the Saints series against the St. Mary's Rattlers.
Game 1: St. Mary's 8, St. Edward's 5
St. Edward's surrendered four runs in the first inning and then scored a single run in four of the next seven innings, falling 8-5 to St. Mary's despite a monster game from
DAVIS DREWEK.
Easton Parrish opened the scoring with a two-run blast to left field. St. Mary's followed that with back-to-back doubles from Goins and Rudy Solis for another run. An error allowed a fourth run before the Hilltoppers got out of the inning.
St. Edward's responded with three in the first.
DAVIS DREWEK singled to left field, and then two walks and a hitter batter scored the Hilltoppers' first run.
JOEL SHEA drove in two more with a single to right field.
A two-out error allowed an unearned run to score in the second inning, offsetting Drewek's first home run in the bottom of the same inning. Heller drove in a sixth St. Mary's run in the third on a fielder's choice, beating out the double play to preserve the RBI.
Drewek hit a leadoff home run in the fifth, but St. Mary's answered with runs in the sixth and seventh. The Rattlers took advantage of two walks to score on another fielder's choice in the sixth, and Guajardo hit an RBI single up the middle in the seventh.
Drewek was 3-for-4 with two RBI and three runs scored.

Game 2: St. Mary's 11, St. Edward's 7
St. Mary's scored eight runs evenly divided over the third and fourth innings, defeating St. Edward's 11-2. the victory swept the doubleheader and gave St. Mary's a 2-1 series lead.
The Rattlers loaded the bases with one out in the first, getting back-to-back singles before
JAKUB RAYFIELD hit Parrish and surrendered a two-RBI single to Goins.
Goins reached third on an error to open the third inning, scoring on Solis's sac fly to deep right field. Heller and J. Cuevas followed with back-to-back RBI doubles, and Elizondo hit an RBI single up the middle to extend the lead to 6-0.
St. Edward's scored its first run in the bottom of the inning, when two walks and a Drewek double set up a score on a balk with the bases loaded.
St. Mary's answered immediately, opening the fourth with a leadoff walk and double, scoring on Parrish's groundout. Goins followed with a two-run blast, ending Rayfield's afternoon for
COLIN JACKSON. The Rattlers scored their 10th run during a rundown that ended the inning. St. Mary's added to it with an RBI single from Parrish in the fifth.
TY MURRAY sparked St. Edward's with an RBI single in the bottom of the inning, followed by four more runs in the sixth.
Shea hit a one-out single,
RYAN FEDDERSEN singled through the left side, and an error loaded the bases. Sebek drew a walk to score one run, Drewek hit a sac fly to score a second, and Little drove in two more with a single to right center, bringing the score to 11-6.
The Hilltoppers tried to muster a rally with two outs in the seventh, getting back-to-back singles from Shea and Feddersen, scoring a run on
WESTON SYMES's single through the right side. However, Sebek flied out to right field to end the game.
Shea, Feddersen, and Symes led St. Edward's with two hits each. Little had two RBI. Drewek was 1-for-1 with two walks, an RBI, and a run scored. St. Edward's falls to 17-19 with a 17-20 with a 17-18 conference record. The series will conclude tomorrow with a 1:00 p.m. start time.
