AUSTIN, Texas – St. Edward's volleyball will host its first Pride Night on Wednesday, September 25, at 6:00 p.m. when the Hilltoppers host the Texas A&M International Dustdevils in the Lone Star Conference opener.
'This idea was brought to us by some of our players after seeing UT Austin Volleyball do a Pride Night last year. As an openly gay man, I feel it is crucial for young people in the world to see themselves represented in adults around them living safe, full, and authentic lives," St. Edward's Head Volleyball Coach Jared Te'o says. "I'm so glad we're able to put this on and show our community that we can be a bright spot of acceptance for so many."
The Hilltoppers are partnering with SEU Pride, a recognized LGBTQ+ student organization focused on creating a welcoming, engaging environment through social events and awareness campaigns to empower young leaders and bring attention to issues affecting the campus community and beyond.
Portions of the proceeds will go to
Out Youth, an organization that serves the LGBTQ+ youth of the Central Texas area. Their mission is to provide a safe space for LGBTQ+ youth to come together, receive support, and make friends. Donations to Out Youth can
be made by clicking here.
Admission to volleyball remains free with a St. Edward's University ID and
$10.00 for general admission with a $5 discount for senior citizens, military, and non-SEU students with valid identification. Doors open one hour before game time, and fans will receive rainbow sunglasses while supplies last. Parking is
available with registration here. Volleyball is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year and opens conference play with an 8-3 record.
