Men's Basketball Goes Cold Down The Stretch, Loses to Oklahoma Christian

EDMOND, Okla. – St. Edward's had an opportunity to send the game into overtime. However, JAMISON KAY's 3-pointer fell off target, and the Hilltoppers opened the Oklahoma road trip with a 74-71 loss to the Oklahoma Christian Eagles.

GAVINO RAMOS led St. Edward's with 16 points and six assists, but the Hilltoppers shot just 28-for-68 from the field and surrendered a combined 38 points to Marco Foster and Jason Clark on 7-for-11 shooting from deep in the loss.

Oklahoma Christian's Bryce Kennedy led the Eagles to an early 10-6 lead with three quick layups, but MASON COURTNEY and LUCA BAREI answered with back-to-back 3-pointers, and LUKE KISER found SAM MCKINNEY for a layup to cap off an 8-0 run.

Clark steadied the Eagles and caught fire, hitting all three 3-point attempts in the first half and getting to the free-throw line for six attempts, draining five, to lead all scorers with 16 points at the break.

Ramos directed the offense with seven points and four assists, and Courtney scored eight, but St. Edward's surrendered 12 free-throw attempts and 12-for-25 shooting from the field for a 38-38 tie at the break.

St. Edward's reeled off an early 7-0 run in the fourth quarter to take a 53-44 lead with 15:32 remaining. Ramos hit back-to-back layups, and CONOR MCMANUS made a layup through contact and a free throw for the 3-point play.

Marco Foster brought Oklahoma Christian back, catching fire in the second half with 15 points on 5-for-8 shooting, hitting 3-for-5 from deep.

St. Edward's led for most of the second half but went cold down the stretch, going scoreless over the final few minutes to lose the lead. Oklahoma Christian had a chance to seal the game in the final 17 seconds but made only one-for-two from the free-throw line. However, Kay's game-tying 3-pointer at the buzzer missed the mark.

St. Edward's falls to 10-8 with a 4-5 conference record. The Hilltoppers will remain on the road and play Cameron on Saturday.
