Tate, Jaramillo Shine in Baseball's Series-Opening Win Against Cameron

AUSTIN, Texas – KOBE JARAMILLO recorded 10 strikeouts for a second consecutive game, and right fielder Dylan Take drove in two RBI and scored a run in St. Edward's 6-4 win over Cameron to open the four-game series.

Cameron did all its damage with two swings. The Aggies' Zane Roos hit a two-run blast in the second inning after Jaramillo hit Wyatt Cunningham. Lance Barnett added another two-run home run in the eighth after reliever MARLEY BERNAL plunked Owen Rice.

Beyond those two swings, St. Edward's pitching staff was impeccable. Jaramillo sent seven innings, surrendering three hits, two runs, and two walks with 10 strikeouts to earn his third win in three starts. He retired the side in order in the first, third, and fifth innings, struck out three in the second, and recorded two strikeouts in each of the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings.

Bernal surrendered two runs on one hit in the eighth inning, and PARKER TENNILL retired three of four in the ninth to record his fourth save.

MARCO BARRERA drew a leadoff walk in the second, then advanced to second off a throwing error on a pickoff attempt after KHAMANI BLAKNEY flied out to right field. Tate drove in his first RBI with an RBI single to left-center. Barrera perfectly read Tate's line drive into the outfield, getting an excellent jump to score from second on the single to get a run back after Roos' home run.

Barrera tied the game at two in the bottom of the fourth with a solo blast to right field. CARLO FIGUEROA gave St. Edward's the lead with an RBI infield single with bases loaded, scoring a second run off an error for the 4-2 lead.

Tate led off the bottom of the sixth with a double to left field, and St. Edward's manufactured another run with consecutive sacrifice bunts from NICHOLAS ANDERSON and JEREMY HILL. Tate drove in another run with an RBI single to right-center in the seventh. St. Edward's right fielder ended the day hitting 3-for-4 with a double.

TRAVIS CHESTNUT added two hits in five at-bats with one run scored, and CONNOR COX, Figueroa, and Barrera had one hit.

St. Edward's improves to 6-3 and will continue its series against Cameron with a Saturday doubleheader starting at noon.
